Founder & Head Coach
Manga founded
FAST in January 1992, when the Fairland Aquatic Center first opened and has
been at the helm ever since. Manga was instrumental in guiding the program
through its early years, focusing on attracting swimmers and giving them the
fundamentals of swimming. After establishing a solid foundation, he then set
about taking the program to higher levels of achievement. The team became
more competitive in local meets, qualifying swimmers for local championship
meets, and eventually began placing swimmers on Potomac Valley All Star teams.
FAST has been qualifying swimmers for the Long Course Eastern Zone Champs
since 1995.
Manga has
coached 2 swimmers to National Rankings, one swimmer was voted Potomac Valley
Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, 4 Sectionals qualifiers, 1 Eastern Zone
champion and current meet record holder, 1 Junior National qualifier and
Finalist, and 1 All American consideration honors.
Manga
recently 'retired' from the high school coaching ranks, having finished his
7th year at Blake High School
in Silver Spring. The Lady Bengals have been Division Champs 5 of their 7
years of existence, and finished 3rd in Montgomery County
this past year. Before starting the team at Blake, Manga spent 3 years as
Head coach of Paint Branch, and 4 years at Eleanor Roosevelt in Greenbelt,
where both boys and girls teams were County Champs each of the four years he
coached them. Manga spent 16 summers as the Head Coach of
Ashton Swim Team in the MCSL.
TONY MURRAY
Blue II
Tony returns for his 11th season with FAST. A graduate of East
Carolina University, he has coached all ages at FAST and begins his 7th year with Blue
II.
Tony will be
teaching PE at St. Josephs this coming school year. He has also been the Head
Coach of Calverton Swim Club of the MCSL the past 10 seasons, and is the Head
Coach at St. John’s HS in the District.
ROBERT DAVIS
Red I
This will be
"Pappys" 9th year on the deck for FAST. He has nearly 15 years experience
in youth sports coaching and administration. He is American Swimming Coaches
Association Level 2 certified, and has completed the ASCA Level 3 coursework.
He is also a MSYSA licensed soccer coach.
ABBIE GREER
Blue I
Abbie
is returning for her 7th year coaching Blue
1. As a graduate of FAST, Abbie is excited
to continue to be a part of the program.
During the summer, Abbie coaches at Bel Air
Swim and Racquet in Bowie, Maryland
(PMSL). She is American Swimming Coaches
Association Level 2 certified. Abbie is a
graduate of the University of Maryland,
College Park with a bachelor's degree in
Psychology, and a graduate of George
Washington University with a certificate in
"Counseling Diverse Populations" and a
Master's in Education and Human Development
in School Counseling. Historically, Abbie
has both taught and coached at the high
school level, and is currently employed as
the School Counselor at St. Mary of the
Mills School In Laurel, Maryland.
KRISTY
DAMBROSIA
White Group
Kristy begins her 5th season with FAST, and brings
15 years as a competitive swimmer and 10 years as an instructor to the table.
Kristy attended Drexel U in Philadelphia and is now attending UMCP, and
majoring in Communications. Kristy grew up competing for CUBU as a mini,
then RMSC as an age grouper, and then with FAST once in high school. She
swam for Paint Branch HS with Manga and then again in the summer at Ashton
Swim Team.
KYLE DANIELS
Blue I
Kyle returns this this Fall for his3rd season, and will be
coaching Blue I. Kyle is a former FAST swimmer and is currently a Senior at the
University of Maryland at College Park. The past three summers he has coached
Greenbelt Swim Team. (PMSL).
KRISTA CHMIELEWSKI
Blue I
Krista is currently an Academic Counselor for student
athletes at the University of Maryland with a Masters in Education from
Temple University. Krista brings many years of summer league and USA
Swimming coaching experience with her, primarily from the Pennsylvania area
where she grew up. She swam collegiately on scholarship at Drexel
University, and was most recently an assistant coach with Northridge Swim
Team (PMSL).
LAUREN LEACH
White, Development
Lauren joins our coaching staff this season after being a
competitive swimmer since age 5. Lauren is a graduate of Paint Branch High
School, and is currently attending Howard Community College and is also a
volunteer at Burtonsville Fire Department.
SARAH MCCRAY
White
Sarah joins our coaching staff this year after being a
member of FAST the past 13 years. She graduated from Laurel High School this
past May, and is currently attending Howard Community College. Her plans are
to transfer into a four year college next Fall.
